This is the normal career path of an incumbent that has successfully completed credit training and demonstrated the ability to underwrite complex credits. The Portfolio Manager III participates in the underwriting and loan summary preparation and ongoing portfolio management related to Credit facilities. Conducts the underwriting and evaluation of loans originated by Commercial Relationship Managers. Reviews completed loan analysis and loan compliance reviews with the credit analyst prior to distribution and evaluates completeness of risk assessment and accuracy of the underwriting details and projections. This position is typically assigned loans of high credit levels and complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Works with the Relationship Managers and Credit Administration advising them of the credit risks inherent in loans being proposed and of the relevant loan policies, precedents, concentration risks, and related topics.
  2. Compiles and reviews information regarding guarantors and the borrowing company's financial history and current condition.
  3. Oversees spreading of financial statements and tax returns; conducts comprehensive analyses to determine the degree of risk involved and profitability of extending credit or lending money, such as cash flow, trend and industry analysis.
  4. Prepares underwriting packages; communicates results and recommendations in a written narrative.
  5. Monitors and updates pipeline and other department reports; communicates with relationship managers on status of pending requests.

  1. Working knowledge of lending and credit risk management concepts, practices and procedures.
  2. Solid technology and internet skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Excel) and ability to navigate financial software applications.
  3. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  5. Good attention to detail and concern for data accuracy.
  6. Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills; demonstrated ability to make sound business judgments.
  7. Strong customer service and communication skills, including technical writing abilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
10+ years' experience as a portfolio manager or comparable experience. The incumbent should also be knowledgeable of business development/marketing, and the loan application process which includes accepting applications, gathering any necessary information and processing any applicable documentation in order to successfully package a loan application. Experience in handling and processing commercial loan packages.

Formal Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Economics.

Work Status:
Full-Time.

Supervisory Responsibility:
None.

Travel:
10% - Some amount of travel expected.

Working Conditions:
Conditions may involve a higher level of stress when working to meet deadlines; will involve lifting no more than ten pounds, sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, moving, or standing for brief periods, and occasionally lifting and carrying articles like files, ledgers, folders, etc.
