Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical engineering activities within LJA Energy, Inc. (the Company). He/she organizes and coordinates assignments. They are responsible for the establishment and maintenance of technical standards within the discipline. He/she is responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the discipline and is ultimately responsible for the mechanical design and engineering on projects by signing and sealing documents/drawings.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

1. Supervision Received

• Receives administrative and technical supervision from the VP, Midstream in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

1. Supervision Exercised

• Exercises administrative and technical supervision over discipline personnel.
• Provides technical guidance to discipline personnel assigned to projects.

1. Contacts

• Maintains contacts with suppliers to keep abreast of developments.
• Maintains contact with project management to ensure that a project is receiving adequate numbers of technical support personnel and that the quality of design work is satisfactory.
• Maintains contact with outside technical consultants.
• Maintains close contact with other discipline engineers within the Company and the project to ensure uniformity of compliance with company policies, procedures and standards.
• Contacts client representatives as appropriate to provide technical advice.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Is responsible for the discipline engineering on projects, including staff planning and personnel administration, including approvals of personnel actions such as staff additions, terminations, transfers, salary actions and performance evaluations.
2. Provides technical guidance to discipline personnel.
3. Maintains continuous contact with work in progress by reviewing or approving key drawings, calculations, design documents, and specifications developed by the discipline staff.
4. Reviews unusual or complex design problems, provides guidance for their solution either personally, by discipline staff or by outside consultants.
5. Maintains knowledge of new developments in the discipline by reading technical literature and by contacts within the industry.
6. Establishes the discipline training needs, obtains budgeting approval and directs the development of training programs.
7. Reviews project staffing requirements and assigns qualified technical personnel from within the discipline.
8. Implements Corporate personnel policies for assigned personnel.
9. Directs the development of and approves standard specifications, design procedures, work instructions, templates, and standard forms in the discipline.
10. Is required to be listed as a Responsible Member on the Company's Permit to Practice. The Company's Permit to Practice is acquired through the appropriate provincial/state professional licensing boards.
11. Will be required to participate with the preparation of proposals.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer has knowledge of systems, calculations, applications of methods, materials and computer software pertaining to the discipline.

Has an extensive knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria used in the discipline.

Has knowledge of administrative practices.

Has excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proven leadership and management ability.

The above is normally acquired through:

• A recognized degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university

OR

• A professional license in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board,

OR

• Specialized courses in relevant general engineering, or an appropriate engineering discipline,

AND

• Extensive progressive work experience in oil and gas midstream design including experience at a management level in project and staff design engineering or other relevant types of engineering such as Engineering firms, field engineering or plant operation in midstream process plants, pipeline and pipeline related facilities, utilities or construction firms.

Must have at least seven (7) years of midstream engineering design experience.
