Position Description
The Justice Court Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties and provides administrative support to the Harris County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 8, Place 1.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist public with general information at the window, phone, or via e-mail.
- Process new case filings from case initiation to judgment (ex. EV, SC, Debt, Tow Hearings, ODL, etc.)
- Process motions as received/filed/eFiled.
- Issue parties court appearance dates and times.
- Prepare various types of citations.
- Process various types of Writs/Abstracts/Appeals.
- Process requests from Constable's Office.
- Set cases on dockets and notice all parties.
- Accept monies for filings.
- Process tasks from Judge/Clerk Queues.
- Accept and transfer appeals to Civil County Court at Law.
- Process faxes from Civil County Court at Law.
- Set cases for Jury Trial and request Jurors.
- Assist with preparation and review of the Eviction & Civil Dockets.
- Update Eviction Docket minutes.
- Prepare Eviction Judgments.
- Prepare Civil Judgments and Orders.
- Answer Due Report.
- Provide Zoom support for parties, as needed.

Education: - High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience or Justice Court Civil, Legal
experience, or other state or municipal court experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Basic knowledge of computers and related software comprised of Microsoft Windows and Word.
- Detail-oriented and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Must be punctual, dependable, and have the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to sit for long periods at a time.
- Must take Clerical Skills Test" and score a minimum of 85% with a typing speed of 40 WPM and 85% accuracy.
