The Senior Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, workers compensation, and 401(k) plans.
Duties/Responsibilities Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS (WorkDay) to provide vendors (Cigna, EyeMed, Fidelity, etc) with accurate eligibility information Assists with new-hire orientations Performs quality checks of benefits-related data Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes, including COBRA administration Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment Facilitates the open enrollment process Administers the tuition reimbursement program Verifies the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintains statistical data related to premiums, claims and costs. Resolves administrative problems with carrier representatives Coordinates workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator and follows up on claims
Required Skills/Abilities Knowledge of employee benefits laws, regulations and best practices related to COBRA, leave of absences, HIPAA, ERISA and 401k plans Proficient in Excel utilizing PivotTables and VLOOKUP Excellent customer service skills and the ability to empathize with employees needs and concerns Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational and time management skills
Supervisory Responsibilities None
Education and Experience
Required Associates degree in HR or a related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education Two to five years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration
Preferred Bachelors degree in human resources or related field of study
Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
