Job Summary

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for applying evidence-based medical nutrition therapy for the assessment and treatment of patients of all ages facing nutrition risks. Key responsibilities include evaluating nutritional needs, providing medical nutrition therapy, and educating patients on nutrition. This role requires collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes, sharing expertise, and offering guidance to new graduates and Dietitian I positions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or a related field. A Master's degree is required if registration was obtained after January 1, 2024.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensure with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is required.
    • CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or obtained within six (6) months of hire.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Two (2) years of clinical nutrition experience required with a Bachelor's degree; one (1) year with a Master's degree; or no experience required with a Doctoral degree.
  • Must meet career ladder criteria to maintain Level II classification after one (1) year of employment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Proficient in nutritional care and related skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication abilities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Interprets and develops comprehensive nutrition care plans for patients referred by physicians or registered nurses based on nutrition assessments to achieve specific goals.
  • Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary medical team as a vital asset, helping to establish nutrition-related goals by crafting individualized care plans with ongoing evaluations.
  • Manages medical nutrition therapy tailored to patients' age, preferences, tolerances, and cultural/religious considerations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in medical records, including assessments, monitoring parameters, goals, and recommendations.
  • Provides age-appropriate nutrition education to patients and families, considering their cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Effectively handles multiple priorities while maintaining cross-coverage as needed.
  • Adheres to established policies, procedures, and standards related to time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Commits to providing safe care to patients, staff, and visitors by following all Memorial Hermann policies and procedures within budgetary constraints.
  • Fosters professional development through continuing education and skills competency, supporting departmental goals that contribute to organizational success while serving as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates dedication to every community member by creating compassionate and personalized interactions, exemplifying Memorial Hermann's service standards.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.
