We have an integrated and scalable range of services which help our clients achieve their goals on projects of varying scope, budget, schedule, and complexity.Job Description: As an Excavation Manager (commonly referred to as a Dig Boss), you will be responsible for overseeing all excavation, trenching, and earthwork activities on our construction projects. This role is critical for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant excavation operations while coordinating closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and safety teams.

Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination

  • Lead and manage all excavation and earth-moving operations, including site preparation, trenching, grading, and backfilling.
  • Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine excavation requirements and sequencing.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and engineers to align excavation schedules with overall project timelines.

Field Operations Management
  • Supervise excavation crews, operators, and subcontractors to ensure proper execution of work.
  • Oversee equipment usage, including excavators, trenchers, loaders, and related machinery, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Ensure proper marking and protection of underground utilities prior to digging.
  • Monitor soil conditions, shoring, and trench safety in compliance with OSHA and local regulations.

Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce strict adherence to OSHA excavation safety standards, company safety protocols, and local codes.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and safety briefings with the excavation team.
  • Coordinate with the safety manager to address potential risks and ensure safe working conditions.
Quality & Efficiency
  • Verify that excavation depths, slopes, and layouts meet engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot field issues and implement solutions to minimize delays and rework.
  • Optimize manpower, equipment, and material resources to maintain efficiency and control costs.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate logs of excavation activities, inspections, and daily progress reports.
  • Communicate regularly with project leadership on status updates, risks, and changes.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience managing excavation or earthwork operations in the construction industry
  • Strong understanding of excavation techniques, soil classifications, shoring systems, and OSHA trenching regulations
  • Experience coordinating excavation with other trades in complex, multi-phase projects
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage crews and subcontractors effectively
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting construction drawings and utility layouts
  • Familiarity with excavation equipment and their maintenance requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

Basic Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Confined Space Training
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certification (preferred but not required
