Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct care to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring high-quality and compassionate support throughout dialysis treatments. This role involves patient monitoring, documentation, and clinical assistance during pre- and post-dialysis activities. The PCT plays an essential part in maintaining patient safety, responding to emergencies, and upholding compliance standards in a healthcare environment.
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct care to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring high-quality and compassionate support throughout dialysis treatments. This role involves patient monitoring, documentation, and clinical assistance during pre- and post-dialysis activities. The PCT plays an essential part in maintaining patient safety, responding to emergencies, and upholding compliance standards in a healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Accurately document all patient treatment information and observations.
- Assist with pre- and post-dialysis patient assessments and related documentation.
- Monitor and record dialysis treatment parameters on Dialysis Flow Sheets.
- Report significant changes in patient condition or status to the supervising nurse.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations during dialysis treatments.
- Initiate basic CPR measures when necessary and assist with emergency operational procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all safety, quality, and infection control standards.
Required Experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Must successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis.
- Must maintain current CPR certification.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Prior patient care experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Education or background in physical sciences or laboratory techniques.
Required Skills:
- Patient monitoring and documentation accuracy
- CPR and emergency response readiness
- Ability to follow clinical protocols and instructions
