Job Title: Distribution Specialist

Department: Donated Goods Program (DGP)

Reports To: Operations Project and Support Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Assist in the day-to-day operations to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of the new goods and corporate donation workforce to maximize profitability and increase training opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process products efficiently and effectively based on GWH's needs and adapt to changes in commodities processing as assigned.
  • Breakdown orders received by the assigned location, secure appropriate equipment, and label for transport.
  • Maintain the backroom organization with new goods, fixtures, and supplies, and keep an accurate inventory.
  • Set up and follow distribution plans.
  • Assist in the efficient movement of new goods and donated new goods in the warehouse to and from storage or production areas, and in the loading and unloading of trucks with the aid of material handling equipment as needed.
  • Receive vendor shipments, supply orders, and new goods, confirming the accuracy of what was received based on the manifest or order sheet, to communicate any missing, extra, incorrect, or damaged items.
  • Receive large corporate donations/new items sourced by Donor Acquisition and break down, price, and distribute these goods.
  • Operate assigned material handling equipment safely and prudently in accordance with the state and federal regulations and GWH safety policies and procedures.
  • Must perform necessary janitorial work.
  • Use safe work procedures and personal protective equipment as required. (i.e., lifting, use of proper equipment, etc.).
  • Follow the identified compliance standards and GWH guidelines for processing different commodities.
  • Report forklift and other needed equipment repairs and/or maintenance to the Dock Manager in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • Adhere to all GWH Policies & Procedures, Loss Prevention & Safety Regulations, and GWH Guiding Principles.
  • Must be punctual, have dependable attendance, and maintain an appropriate appearance.
  • Must safely conduct work; maintain good housekeeping standards; have all aisles and pathways to fire exits clear and free from clutter; and keep work areas neat and clean.
  • May be asked to attend training sessions and participate in activities outside GWH.
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or the equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse setting is preferred.
  • Ability to become forklift certified is required. Previous forklift experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in salvage tracking and reporting.
  • Knowledgeable in all loading techniques for salvage load types is preferred.
  • Skills in operation monitoring, watching for indicators, etc., to ensure heavy machinery is working correctly.
  • Good computer skills (efficient in Microsoft Office, GPS, and other applications).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

The ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, kneel, push, and pull. Able to lift up to 40 lbs. and, occasionally, lift/move items up to 100 lbs. (e.g., large bags of donations, televisions, furniture, etc.) Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

An indoor work environment with occasional exposure to outside temperatures. The noise level in the normal work environment is usually moderate.
