Description

Summary: The Mechanic Helper will assist mechanics with general shop duties and the upkeep and movement of shower trailers. Be available for overtime as needed, make deliveries, purchase parts, and source machine work. Help with installing safety equipment and work on calibrating gas detection equipment.

This is a Temp to Hire Shop Helper position out in our Hempstead location

Responsibilities of the Shop Helper include, but are not limited to:

• Wear safety glasses with face shield
• Proper lifting techniques shall be followed
• Use additional tools to assist lifting when needed (i.e. dolly, forklift, hoist)
• Make sure guards are in place, plug and outlet is correct and in working order
• Clear work area of any hazards and/or other personnel
• Hold metal with both hands
• Proper hand positioning while grinding material
• Turn grinder on prior to contact with the metal
• Grind on the piece of metal to even the weld, or to clean a surface of iron, or even to cut a piece of metal for a guard
• Turn grinder off when complete
• Look over the material to make sure edges are smooth
• Any other task as assigned

Qualifications of the Shop Helper include, but are not limited to:

• Must have Metal Grinding experience
• Ability to stay alert and pay attention to the task
• Must be self-motivated and a team player
• Able to work in a team environment
• Background check, drug screen, physical required

Physical Demand: Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.

Shift Time/Overtime: Day shift Monday through Friday with some overtime and alternate weekends 6:00 am to 4:00pm
