North Shore Steel is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Night Shift Grinder to support our production team in preparing structural steel for delivery to our customers. This role is essential to product quality, the Grinder ensures material leaving our facility meets finish standards, is safe to handle, and reflects the pride we take in our work.
You will work closely with the Production Supervisor and Foreman to inspect, prepare, and finish steel components by removing surface imperfections and verifying readiness for the next production stage. The right teammate takes ownership of their workspace, works safely at all times, and values doing the job right the first time.
This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced industrial environment where teamwork, consistency, and attention to detail matter.
What You Will Do
- Grind and finish steel parts to remove burrs, sharp edges, weld spatter, and surface defects
- Visually inspect material to verify finish quality meets company standards
- Set up and safely operate handheld and stationary grinding equipment
- Follow all safety rules, including proper use of PPE and hazard awareness
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift
- Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or quality concerns immediately
- Support material flow by preparing parts for the next operation or shipment
- Participate in shift meetings, safety talks, and required training
- Assist with cross-training and help teammates when workload shifts

Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on a routine basis and handle materials safely as part of daily job duties.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain safe body positioning while performing tasks and moving through the work area, including walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.
- Frequent squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, requiring full-body mobility, balance, and upper- and lower-body strength to perform work safely.
- Manual agility to operate tools safely and effectively, with regular use of arms, shoulders, and back for lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks.
- Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
- Maintain adequate visual and auditory acuity to safely perform assigned tasks, including but not limited to: identifying potential hazards, reading and/or recording measurements, inspecting materials, and responding promptly to verbal instructions, alarms or hand signals in the work environment
