General Counsel

Location: Houston, TX

We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead our firm's legal, compliance, and regulatory functions in the fast-paced world of energy trading. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of law, risk, and commercial strategy, and can provide clear guidance in a dynamic trading environment.

Leadership & Strategy

• Oversee day-to-day legal operations and drive process excellence across trading, risk, and support teams.
• Partner with the CEO and leadership team on governance, risk oversight, and strategic initiatives.
• Support key negotiations with investors, partners, and counterparties.
• Provide strategic counsel to trading and commercial teams on deal structures and market-related risks.

Legal & Compliance

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex trading agreements (ISDA, EEI, NAESB, etc.).
• Ensure full compliance with CFTC, FERC, NERC, and ISO/RTO market regulations.
• Lead enterprise risk, internal audit coordination, and regulatory interactions.
• Manage relationships with external counsel, regulators, and industry bodies.
• Develop, implement, and enforce compliance policies, training, and internal controls.

Commercial & Operational

• Support business negotiations with counterparties, investors, and partners.
• Collaborate with trading teams to structure transactions while managing legal and regulatory risk.
• Provide operational support by reviewing and approving key documents, contracts, and agreements.
• Advise executive leadership on strategic decisions with legal and risk considerations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in legal and compliance roles, ideally within energy trading, commodities, or financial services.
• Deep expertise in CFTC regulations, ISDA/EEI/NAESB agreements, and trading compliance frameworks.
• Strong negotiation, drafting, communication, and strategic advisory skills.
• Ability to balance legal, regulatory, and commercial priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
