divh2OAG - Sex Offender Apprehension Unit | Sergeant | 26-0472/h2pThe Criminal Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Sergeant that performs investigative law enforcement work. Work involves investigative work within the Houston Sex Offender Apprehension Unit. The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans./ppEssential Position Functions:/pulliConducts undercover investigations and surveillance operations/liliConducts background and personal history investigations, reviews records, and verifies information/liliDocuments the investigative process by preparing records and reports/liliEvaluates and summarizes legal aspects of investigations, recommending action as appropriate/liliIdentifies, gathers, and examines evidence, including complex records of individuals, associates, and corporations/liliLocates, contacts, and interviews potential witnesses and suspects/liliObtains and prepares affidavits, statements, and confessions/liliParticipates in raids, searches, manhunts, and other operations; and makes arrests/liliParticipates in executing court orders, warrants, and subpoenas/liliTestifies as a witness in trials or formal hearings, and provides trial assistance to lead attorney as requested/liliPerforms related work as assigned/liliMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions/liliAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule/liliEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information/liliComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity/li/ulpMinimum Qualifications:/pulliEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent/liliEducation: Sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a closely related field; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: investigative law enforcement/liliExperience: Four years of full-time law enforcement investigative experience/liliKnowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and other applicable state and federal statutes/liliSkill in researching and interpreting complex rules and regulations/liliSkill in applying investigative techniques and procedures to assigned cases/liliSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines/liliSkill in effective oral and written communication/liliSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making/liliAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback/liliAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment/liliAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)/liliAbility to achieve 64% or better of VO2 max on the 2000 meter row utilizing a Concept 2 Rower or meet a minimum score of 64% for their age and/or gender when performing the 500 Meter Row or the 4 Minute Row./liliAbility to use and care for firearms; to use intermediate impact weapons and Oleoresin Capsicum spray; to use physical tactics; to conduct investigations; to evaluate, analyze, and investigate allegations of wrongdoing; to prepare reports; to prepare criminal cases for prosecution; to communicate effectively; and to train, lead, and/or prioritize the work of others/liliAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA/liliAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs./liliAbility to travel (including overnight travel) up to 50%/liliCertifications: Must be certified as a Texas peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement/liliLicensure: Must possess a valid drivers license/li/ulpPreferred Qualifications:/pulliEducation: Master Peace Officer License (TCOLE)/liliExperience: Fugitive Investigations/liliKnowledge: Agency rules, policies, and procedures/liliSkills: Advanced use of interview and interrogation skills/liliAbilities: The ability to investigate complex cases/li/ulpTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
