We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support our growing
finance team and contribute to accurate financial reporting and operational cost tracking.
Position Summary
The Project Accountant will support the Controller in maintaining accurate financial
records, assisting with month-end close, and ensuring compliance with internal controls
and industry regulations. This role will have exposure to inventory accounting, cost
accounting, terminal operations reporting, and financial reporting within an industrial
environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Month-End Close:
- Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, allocations)
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain general ledger integrity
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reports
Inventory & Cost Accounting Support:
- Assist with inventory reconciliations (raw materials, WIP, finished goods)
- Support standard cost updates and variance analysis
- Assist in analyzing cost of goods sold and operational margins
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding
- Assist with 3-way match (PO, receiving, invoice)
- Monitor customer billing and support collections
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer records
Regulatory & Compliance Support:
- Assist with sales tax filings and state reporting
- Support documentation for environmental and operational compliance audits
- Maintain organized audit-ready workpapers
- Support external audit and tax preparation processes
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Follow and support implementation of internal control procedures
- Assist in ERP data integrity and reporting accuracy
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting workflows
- Support system enhancements and data clean-up initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Understanding of inventory and cost accounting concepts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)
- Experience with ERP systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
