Police DispatcherSalary Police Pay Grade 2 261 Days Min. $18.49 HourlyProvides police dispatching support for the District and ensures calls are entered timely and accurately regarding 911 emergency and the non-emergency situations.Minimum Education/Certification:Must be a citizen of the United StatesMust be at least 21 years of ageMust possess a high school diploma or GEDMust successfully pass a pre-employment battery of testing that includes background, psychological, physical, and drug examinationsMust never have been convicted of a felony offenseMust not have been convicted of any class of non-traffic misdemeanor offense within the past 5 yearsMust have demonstrated a positive past work historyMust possess adequate visual acuity and hearing ability sufficient to read, write, hear, and speak clearly in person and over communications Must possess a T.C.L.O.S.E. Telecommunications Operator's License within one year of appointmentSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of police terminology and related standard office procedures and practicesSkill in operating multi-line phone system and efficiently answer questions and route calls as necessarySkill in operating computer for data entry/information retrieval plus basic office equipment such as copier, fax, scannerSkill in assisting telephone and walk in customers using proper telephone etiquette and customer service techniques in a fast, friendly, and flexible mannerSkill in the use of keyboarding with typing at a minimum 30 wpmSkill in English grammar, spelling and punctuation (written and verbal) and proofreadingSkill in processing a high volume of transactionsAbility to prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple projects to meet specific deadlinesAbility to maintain and secure confidentiality of privileged and sensitive informationAbility to maintain professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent the school district in a positive manner at all timesAbility to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy and provide a high level of customer service to employees, administrators, District officials, parents, co-workers, and outside agenciesExperience:Experience in a police dispatch setting preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Answer busy telephones during emergency situations and receive pertinent information for immediate dissemination to police units in the fieldDispatch police and other public safety personnel to emergency and non-emergency calls for serviceClosely monitor radio traffic in the event additional assistance is required by assigned field personnelMaintain accurate, detailed logs of field personnel's locations, times and other information for immediate or future useServe as the department's emergency communications link to other police agencies during critical situationsReceive, assist and direct walk-in complainants at the police department facilityEnsure that any telephone messages received through the dispatch office are documented and forwarded to the intended recipientOperate T.C.I.C./N.C.I.C. computer terminals for queries and data entry and deletion, as neededOperate radio equipment to dispatch Police, Fire and E.M.S. personnel, as neededOperate video / audio monitoring equipmentMaintain detailed documentation on calls for service dispatched or any other information that may be received through the dispatch officeOperate Computer Aided Dispatch computer terminalsPerform other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or his designeePrepare correspondence, forms, reports, manuals, and presentations for the department head and other department staff members.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.Maintain a positive and effective relationship with coworkers, supervisor, District officials and employees, vendors, and outside agencies and organizations.Provide outstanding customer service.Maintain good judgment and decision making when dealing with supervisor, co-workers, District officials and employees, and outside agencies and organizations.Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information when received and distributed to appropriate designees as directed by the Chief of Police or designee.Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovations related to position.Maintain an organized work environment.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Equipment Used: Computer, printer, copier, telephone, scanner, and fax machineMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress Work with frequent interruptions in an open area Frequent sitting with moderate standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting Occasional prolonged and irregular work hoursflexibility with schedule preferred Prolonged use of equipment and computer with repetitive hand motionsRoutine work indoors 100% of the job Working all shifts and days of the week Emergency call-out at a moment's notice Remain on duty until properly relieved Work overtime during staffing shortages and emergencies, up to and including double shifts when required Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the jobThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.Approved by Date Reviewed by Date
